Who is Vesa Suomalainen?

Mr. Suomalainen worked at Microsoft Corporation for 12 years where he

held various positions including General Manager, Director Product

Strategy, Director Business Development, Product Line Manager, and

Senior Program Manager. He managed the Microsoft SNA Server Product

Unit from its inception, from concept in 1988, through its 10th

commercial version that shipped in August 2000, renamed as Microsoft

Host Integration Server. Focused on technical innovation in a highly

competitive market, where Microsoft had no prior presence, Mr.

Suomalainen guided the product to passing competitors Novell and IBM as

the market share leader, growing annual product revenue from zero to

more than $100 million, and from negative to 90% operating profit

margin. A native of Finland, he has a BS degree in Computer

Engineering, attended on a cross country skiing scholarship.
