Who is William Albert "Bitsy" Mullins?
William Albert "Bitsy" Mullins was born on March 13, 1926 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Joseph Franklin Mullins and Alice Barnes Mullins. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1942 and pursued a degree in chemistry from the University of Arkansas at Fayettville, which he completed in 1948.
A trumpeter, Mullins worked over the years with The Tommy Dorsey Band, Buddy Rich, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin and Lena Horne. While with the Dorsey Brothers band, he appeared with the band on The Jackie Gleason Show and The Ed Sullivan Show.
Bitsy Mullins was inducted into the Arkansas Jazz Hall of Fame in 1995.
He died at age 77 on July 5, 2003 at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
