Who was William Finlayson?
William Fyfe Finlayson was an Australian politician. Born in Dunbartonshire, Scotland, he was educated there before becoming an apprentice grocer. He migrated to Australia in 1887 and became a grocer in Brisbane. In 1910, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor member for Brisbane, defeating Liberal minister Justin Foxton. He held the seat until his defeat in 1919. In 1920 he was appointed to the Queensland Legislative Council, where he remained until its abolition in 1922. Finlayson died in 1955.
