Who is Yūji Tsushima?
Yūji Tsushima is a Japanese politician serving in the House of Representatives in the Diet as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party. A native of Aomori, Aomori, he attended University of Tokyo and passed the bar exam while still in college. In 1953, he joined the Ministry of Finance, attending Syracuse University in United States as a part of the Fulbright Program while he was in the minister. Leaving the ministry in 1974, he was elected for the first time in 1976 and served as the Minister of Health in 1990 and 2000. Writer Osamu Dazai was his father-in-law.
On July 19, 2009, after 33 consecutive years in office, Yuji Tsushima announced that he has no plan to run in the following election.
