Who is Yūko Obuchi?
Yūko Obuchi is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party, a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet and the current Minister of State in charge of the Declining Birthrate.
A graduate of Seijo University, Obuchi worked at the broadcaster TBS from 1996 to 1998. She was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in 2000. Her father is former prime minister Keizō Obuchi and her grandfather former member of the House of Representatives Mitsuhei Obuchi.
On September 24, 2008, Obuchi was appointed Minister of State for Social Affairs and Gender Equality in the cabinet of Prime Minister Taro Aso. This made her Japan's youngest cabinet member in the post-war era.
