Who was Clare Harner?

Clare Harner Lyon was a poet and gifted piano player who worked as a publications correspondent. She is known for the poems “Where You Go,” “War Chant,” “Cry from the Dust Bowl,” “With No Ring,” and “Challenger,” and by her contributions to Important American Poets in 1938, with the works “Scarecrow,” “Puritan,” and “She Walked with Three.” The untimely death of her brother Olin Wade Harner on November 11, 1932, prompted her to write the poem “Immortality,” for which she is most associated with. Harner graduated from Kansas State in 1931 with a degree in Industrial Journalism and subsequently performed newspaper, magazine, and advertising agency work .
