WOWT 6 Anchor ' ' ' John Knicely, Sr.' ' ' is Born in Sidney, Nebraska, John joined WOWT as a Sportscaster from 1974 to 1981, at which time he moved to St. Louis in the same capacity for KTVI ( the ABC affiliate ), He returned to Omaha and KETV in May of 1984 and made the move back to WOWT Channel 6 in May of 1992, this time as a Anchor of the 5, 6, and 10 pm Newscasts.

Since that time John has become a favorite in the community through his John at work news features, John recevived numerous awards, including the Journalism Almuni Award of Excellence from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, He recevived Associated Press First Place Awards for series reporting in 2000, and for agriculture stories in 1993 and 1995.

John and his wife have four grandchildren, and his son John Knicely, Jr., He enjoys playing golf and basketball.
