Who is John Knicely?

News 4 Anchor ' ' ' John Knicely ' ' ' joined the Awake team in 2009, He is thrilled to be back in St. Louis where he spent what he likes to call the formative years of his childhood, These roots have left him as one of the die-hard fans in St. Louis Cardinals nation.

John came to KMOV after working as a reporter for CBS 11 in Dallas / Fort Worth, Before that John was at WCCB in Charlotte, NC., Where he worked as Weekend Anchor & a News Reporter, Prior to WCCB, John worked as weekend anchor and news reporter for WPSD-TV in Paducah, KY, There he covered Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky and Northwest Tennessee, John was named Best Reporter by the Kentucky AP three consecutive years, He also won Kentucky and Illinois AP Awards for investigative journalism and feature reporting, In Charlotte, John won two RTNDA of the Carolina awards, He won one his coverage for Virginia Tech Massacre and another for the story of a fire rescue team's efforts in a fire that killed 2 firefighters.

John is a 2003 graduate of Baylor University in Waco, TX. There he began his broadcasting career as a production assistant for KWTX-TV.

John covered President Barack Obama on the Campaign trail in 2008 and covered President George W. Bush on the campaign trail in 2004, John's favorite story was when he traveled with 400 World War II, Veterans to visit the New World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. His biggest thrill was covering St. Louis Cardinals for WPSD-TV as they won the 2006 World Series. He calls that a dream true and hopes to be covering more Cardinals' World Championships for KMOV.

If the name John Knicely is familar to you in the St. Louis area there is good reason, John's father, the elder of John Knicely, worked as a Sports Director at KTVI in the early in the 80's, John Sr. now works as the main news anchor for WOWT-TV in Ohama, NE.

The younger John Knicely enjoys being involved in his church, playing basketball, football, and golf, and following the St. Louis Cardinals, The Baylor Bears, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
