Luke Kennard

Who is Luke Kennard?

Luke Kennard is a British poet, playwright and academic born in 1981.

His first prose-poems collection - The Solex Brothers was published by Stride, and won him an Eric Gregory Award in 2005. His second book The Harbour Beyond the Movie - was published by Salt in 2007, and was shortlisted for the 2007 Forward Poetry Prize. At 26, he is the youngest nominee ever in the history of the Forward Poetry Prizes. The Solex Brothers was re-released with notes by Kennard as The Solex Brothers: Redux. His third collection, The Migraine Hotel, was released by Salt in 2009.

He edits the occasional poetry journal Popularity Contest and edits and contributes to the poetry journal Succour. His work has been published in Riptide Journal, which is based within the University of Exeter. He is part of the comedy collective Pegabovine, and has won awards with them for comic writing at the National Student Drama Festival.

He is married and teaches English with Creative Writing BA and Creative Writing MA at the University of Birmingham.

He will also be partaking in the Bush Theatre's 2011 project Sixty Six where he has written a piece based upon a chapter of the King James Bible
